Laundry detergent, as we all know, is pricey and full of chemicals. But it’s not only the price that troubles me; it’s the fact that most detergents contain hazardous ingredients like bleach and phosphates. When we wash our clothes at home, I don’t want to expose my family to harmful toxins. As a result, I decided to produce my own natural homemade laundry soap.
It’s simple, inexpensive, and beneficial to your health. This easy DIY dish can be made in about 5 minutes with items you probably already have on hand (and if you don’t, they’re inexpensive).
This natural laundry soap will clean your clothes without exposing you or your children to toxic chemicals. It also has a wonderful scent! Here’s how to do it:
Ingredients and Process
- ½ cup of baking soda
- ¼ cup of washing soda
- ¼ cup of castile soap
- Essential oils (optional)
All you have to do now is combine all of the ingredients in a container and you’re ready to try out your natural laundry soap. Add 20-30 drops of your favorite essential oil for a nice smell if desired. Lavender and citrus oils are my favorites because they are both refreshing and antimicrobial.
Depending on the size of your load, this detergent will last for roughly 32 loads of clothes. We use roughly two tablespoons every load in our family of five (two adults and three children under the age of five), so it lasts us almost six months.
This homemade laundry soap may be used on any type of clothing, including baby clothes and cloth diapers (I don’t use cloth diapers because my kids are potty trained, but I know a lot of people who do, and this detergent works fine for them).
It’s soft enough to use on even the most delicate skin types. Give it a shot and let me know how it goes!
With a few basic items, you may easily prepare a natural bathroom cleaner. This dish is also quite simple to prepare and uses materials that you most likely already have on hand.
Add in a Bathroom Cleaner

While you’re making your laundry soap, you can also make a bathroom cleaner with the following ingredients:
- ½ cup vinegar (white or apple cider)
- Water to fill your spray bottle up about halfway
In a spray bottle, combine the ingredients and you’re ready to go! This cleaner may be used on a variety of surfaces, including glass shower doors, tile floors, counters, and just about any other surface you wish to clean.
Cleaning the interior of your refrigerator, as well as potpourri jars and candle holders, is easy with this recipe (just make sure they are completely dry before using this cleaner).
This DIY bathroom cleaner will not leave streaks or a film on your shower tiles or glass doors. If you have a really difficult mess to clean, add a pinch of baking soda to the solution and let it sit for a few minutes before scrubbing. It’ll go off without a hitch!
Reduce Exposure to Toxic Chemicals
You can clean your clothes without exposing yourself or your family to harmful toxins by making your own laundry detergent.
Making your own homemade laundry soap will not only protect you from the dangerous chemicals present in most store-bought soaps, but it will also save you money.
You’ll enjoy how clean your clothing is after using this natural DIY formula, which has no strange odors or residue like some commercial treatments. Plus, playing with different smells and combinations is a lot of fun.
There are endless alternatives here, such as adding lemon essential oil for an extra aroma boost or oats to give your clothing a softness boost while they wash.
