Bridging the Gap with Multivitamins

Most of the common health issues we face today, ranging from constipation to allergies, are linked to what we eat. In the last few decades, the focus of research has shifted to evaluate what we can eat to improve our health and wellness. While on this journey, researchers discovered food with healing potential and foods that are harmful.

That’s not to say a healthy diet alone can take the place of medical treatment. But, food can dramatically improve health and overall well-being, especially when combined with exercise.

We often wonder what we can eat to maintain optimum well-being. To some extent, the answers to that question are on a case-by-case basis. Fortunately, there are some general guidelines including:

  • Eat plenty of vegetables, fruits, and grains
  • Eat the rainbow. In the case of leafy greens, the darker the green, the more nutrient-dense
  • Eat red meat sparingly
  • Eat fish a few times per week. Fatty fish, like salmon and tuna, offer a variety of health benefits
  • Understand that not one single food is a ‘miracle food’

Obtaining a sufficient amount of healthy nutrients is a good start to building a strong immune system. Generally, a well-balanced diet will help on that journey, but multivitamins can help fill the gaps.

If you decide to take a multivitamin, there are some tips that can help:

  • Look for one that is a vitamin/mineral combination
  • Don’t use products that contain over 100 percent of the recommended daily allowance or daily value
  • Make sure the multivitamin is meeting your goals. For example, if you want to boost your immune system, look for a multivitamin that contains vitamin E, B6, C, and zinc
  • Check the expiration date to ensure they haven’t lost their potency
  • Only take what is recommended

Of course, there are more tips to follow, but these will get you started.
