DIY Peppermint Oil for Migraine Headaches

Instead of taking meds, migraine sufferers may consider an herbal treatment. People are beginning to look for more natural remedies… most medications have adverse effects and knowing they’re taking something the Earth has offered is comforting.  When it comes to migraine headaches, pain management is crucial, and some herbs have proven to be effective.

Peppermint has long been utilized for indigestion as a tea and as an essential oil for aromatherapy and massage. Some migraine sufferers have experienced pain relief after using the oil as a massage oil on their head and neck. Before beginning any herbal treatment, always consult your doctor or healthcare professional.

Supplies and Ingredients for DIY Peppermint Massage Oil

Before you can produce homemade massage oil, you’ll need a few things. When mixing essential oils, gloves are recommended since undiluted essential oils can burn or cause a rash on sensitive skin. You’ll need the following supplies and ingredients:

Beginning with two ounces of carrier oil and 15 to 20 drops of peppermint essential oil is a good place to start. A stronger mixture of one ounce (two tablespoons) and 20 drops of essential oil is used by some homeopaths. If the bottle doesn’t contain a self-dropper insert, use an eyedropper. It’s advisable to start with a more diluted mixture and gradually increase if your headache persists. Too much essential oil might irritate the skin.

You can use a small bowl, a two- or three-ounce bottle, or a vial to combine the two oils. Choose a bottle or vial with a lid to keep any remaining mixture. You’ll want to mix the oils together. If you’re using a bowl, swirl the oils together with a wooden spoon or a stir stick until they’re evenly distributed. If you’re using a bottle or vial with a lid or cap, gently shake it to combine the oils.

You can use the oils for massage once they’ve been well combined. You can either use your finger tips or put on a pair of disposable gloves to do this.

Tips for Using Peppermint Oil

Allow the oil you blended to seep into your body while lying down in a calm, dark environment. You can use peppermint essential oil in an aromatherapy oil diffuser while you sleep if you have one.

If the oil doesn’t appear potent enough, you may always reduce the amount of oil carrier to one ounce instead of two ounces. Make sure you don’t use too much essential oil or your skin will become irritated. It’s preferable to start with a small amount and gradually increase it, testing as you go.
